What is the best material for a neon sign?

On a clear base

The most common type of neon sign, made of clear acrylic (PMMA) in a rectangular or custom shape. A CNC milling machine cuts a 2–5 mm groove to hold the neon strip.

This option looks light and airy and fits well into any interior: shops, cafés, beauty salons and so on.

PVC base

An opaque material in which all the wiring can be hidden. The base can also be made in any colour to match your interior.

The material used is 4 to 10 mm thick. It can be rectangular or a custom shape

Neon lettering with each letter mounted separately

This is for when the airy look of acrylic doesn't quite suit you and you want to see the neon lettering with no visible wiring. For a sign like this, you need to plan ahead and run all the wiring inside the wall, with a cable outlet for each element.

A template with mounting points is made in advance, and the electrician does all the necessary work according to it.

The lettering itself is laser-cut in several layers, marked out for the cable outlets and with a groove for the neon slightly wider than the neon itself, and then glued together. Each letter (element) is made separately

CHIPBOARD OR ALUMINIUM COMPOSITE

For a wider variety of designs and for a durable structure. Chipboard comes in a wide range of colours and textures, while aluminium composite is rigid and durable and can be used outdoors.

Remember that outdoor signs require neon rated for outdoor use
