Shaped Nickel-Plated Metal Number Tag, 35x25mm, Double-Sided

This option measures 35x25 mm, double-sided (1+1). An asymmetric plate with a wavy edge and a projecting lug at the narrow end. The lug sits outside the field, so the hole does not eat into the space for the number, and the tag is easy to tell by touch from rectangular tags.

How to choose the size

• The series comes in 35x25, 40x25 and 40x30 mm. A metal tag is smaller than a plastic one yet just as legible: the engraved mark has strong contrast on its own.
• Single-sided (1+0) has the number on the front; double-sided (1+1) has it on both sides, so the tag can be read whichever way it turns on the ring.
• Size and model range are not shown as a separate filter on this page, so see the range above: it covers the whole series.

Brass and finish

The base is 2 mm brass, an alloy of copper and zinc: it holds its shape, is not affected by water and etches well, so it takes a crisp engraved mark.

The brass is nickel-plated: this gives a cool silvery tone and seals the copper from the air, so the tag does not darken. The plating wears first on the edges and raised areas, where the tag rubs against keys; in a cloakroom, on a hook, it lasts noticeably longer.

Chemical etching and enamel

The mark is applied by chemical etching, not by laser. Acid removes the metal to the depth of the design, giving sharp edges, and the recess is filled with enamel, which sits flush with the surface and is protected by the metal around it.

That is why the number does not wear off against keys: it is the top surface that wears, while the mark sits below it. Do not clean the enamel with abrasives, as this chips it at the edges. Logos are accepted in vector format; the difference between formats is explained in the article on vector and raster graphics, and file requirements are in the print-ready artwork requirements.

Chain and ring

A chain with a ring is available as an option: with it, the tag hangs on a cloakroom hook or a belt; without it, it simply goes on a key ring.

Metal number tags are chosen where a tag has to last for years and look premium: hotel and restaurant cloakrooms, keys to offices and safes, equipment labels. A cloakroom needs two tags per number — one stays on the hanger and the other goes to the guest.
