The triangle as a structure

A triangle is the only shape that cannot be skewed without changing the length of its sides. The side uprights, meeting at an angle, make the stand rigid through geometry rather than sheet thickness: it does not loosen even when the phone is picked up a hundred times a day.

Frame base

• a frame instead of a solid plate means less material in view in the display case;
• there is a gap under the device, so the display does not look as if it is standing on a tray;
• a perimeter frame is stiffer than a sheet of the same thickness.

Size for the device

The stand is designed for large smartphones: the inclined surface takes the whole body, not just its lower third. The device should rest on the bottom stop along its full edge: a corner hanging over the stop cancels out the incline.

Care

Ammonia in glass cleaner eats into acrylic, leaving a network of micro-cracks that cannot be removed. Use warm water, a mild detergent and a soft cloth; wipe with a damp cloth, as dry wiping charges the surface with static and attracts dust. More on this: caring for acrylic products.

The stand is designed for the counter and display case of a mobile phone shop or electronics department. It is cut and bent from acrylic sheet, with polished edges.
