A sharp bend instead of a radius

A smooth transition spreads the load along the curve but also flexes slightly: a heavy phone straightens the stand a little and the angle drifts. A sharp bend works like a rib – the angle is fixed by the design, not by the springiness of the sheet.

Flat sides

A flat wall takes up less space in the display case than a flared wing and does not glare off a curved surface. In a brightly lit display case this makes a difference: the fewer curved surfaces, the fewer reflections over the screen.

What holds the phone

• the sloping back takes the weight and sets the angle;
• the lip on the bottom shelf catches the edge of the phone;
• the sides keep the back from rocking sideways when the phone is lifted.

Care

Glass cleaner with ammonia clouds acrylic with micro-cracks that can no longer be polished out. Use warm water, a mild detergent and a soft cloth, and wipe while damp – see acrylic product care.

The stand goes on counters and in display cases in phone shops and electronics departments. It is bent from sheet acrylic with polished edges: on a clear product you can see right through to the edge, and a matt saw cut would stand out at once.
