Mobile Phone Stand, 80x90mm. A wide, low A-frame design: a long inclined plane and a horizontal base with a low front lip, with an upright spacer rib in the centre between them. The rib holds the two planes apart, so the tilt is fixed rigidly and does not change under the weight of the phone.

Spacer rib

A bent angle holds its tilt through the springiness of the sheet, and a heavy phone gradually straightens it. An upright spacer between the planes works differently: it braces them mechanically, so the tilt is the same on day one and a year later.

Low and wide

• the low silhouette does not rise above the phone or show in the display;
• the wide base gives stability without side walls;
• the front lip takes the bottom edge of the phone.

These proportions suit a shallow display case: the stand uses width, which a shelf usually has plenty of, instead of depth, which is in short supply.

Thickness

The spacer takes most of the load off the sheet, so here the thickness is chosen more by the weight of the phone than by the span. For heavy models, still choose thicker sheet: the wide inclined plane is unsupported on either side of the rib.

Care

Acrylic is softer than glass: ammonia-based glass cleaner leaves a network of micro-cracks, permanently. Warm water, a mild detergent and a soft cloth will do; wipe while wet: caring for acrylic products.

The stand is designed for the counter and display case of a mobile phone shop or accessories department. It is bent from sheet acrylic along a heated line.
