The ukulele holder is made of two curved, wavy strips slotted together crosswise: the lower curves stand on the table and the upturned upper ends take the body of the instrument. The ukulele stands at a slight angle, resting on its sides rather than its soundboard.

Resting on the sides, not the soundboard
The soundboard of a plucked instrument is thin and acts as a resonator, so point loads on it are undesirable. The upturned ends of the strips catch the body by its sides, where the wood is thicker, and spread the weight along the curve. The instrument rests on the part designed to take the load.
Crosswise: stable in two planes
A single curve would only stop the instrument falling sideways. Two, joined in a cross, support it both lengthwise and crosswise: the holder doesn't tip over when the ukulele is lifted off with one hand and the centre of gravity shifts sharply. The strips are joined with slots, with no glue or hardware.
Clear acrylic for the instrument
- The instrument stays in the picture, not the stand beneath it.
- The wood doesn't touch any metal, so nothing can scratch the lacquer.
- The holder can be taken apart for transport.
Care
Wash with warm water, a mild detergent and a soft damp cloth. Glass cleaners containing ammonia must not be used on acrylic: they cause a permanent network of micro-cracks. More details: caring for acrylic products.
