Smartphone Stand, 85x120mm. An inclined rectangular back with two curved side wing plates and a flat rectangular base with a separate bent lip. The lip is a separate part rather than a fold in the back, so it sits where the phone needs it, not wherever the bend line happens to fall.

Separate lip

When the lip is formed by bending the back itself, its position is dictated by the geometry of the sheet. A separate part is fitted with the right offset: the phone rests on its edge without its body pressing against the inclined plane, leaving a gap for a case.

Curved wings

• two side plates stop the back rocking sideways;
• the curve takes the outline out of the line of sight, so there is no extra corner above the phone;
• a curved plate is stiffer than a straight one of the same sheet thickness.

Thickness to suit the weight

Choose the thickness by the weight of the phone and the height of the back. The wings take the sideways load, but the back itself takes the vertical load, so choose thicker sheet for heavy models.

Care

The ammonia in glass cleaner attacks acrylic, leaving a network of micro-cracks that cannot be removed. Wash with warm water, a mild detergent and a soft cloth, and wipe while wet: wiping dry builds up static on the surface and attracts dust. More in caring for acrylic products.

The stand is designed for the counter and display case of a mobile phone shop, electronics or accessories department. The parts are laser-cut from sheet acrylic and bent along a heated line.
